Property Briefing - November 2010

Two years ago the failure of Lehman Brothers felt like the end of the world.  As a legal services business, we were seriously concerned about the duty we owed to our clients for money we were holding; and what would happen if a British bank went the same way as Dick Fuld’s doomed empire?

Well, 2010 feels like a very different place.  Those of us who were ‘recession virgins’ have adapted to the new normal of limited transaction volumes and the absence of easy debt.  We’ve also learnt some hard – but worthwhile - lessons about the importance of controlling cost and understanding our markets better than we needed to in easier times.

What will the next couple of years be like?  Take a look at the ‘Notes from the Dick Fuld Survivors’ Club’ article below to see what we think will be influencing the property market in the months ahead.

Also in this edition:

  • What's YOUR approach to property?
  • Take a tip: Agree before you start work!
  • Drunk – but not in charge
  • Planning considerations for listed buildings
