Advising a school on options for the future

We advised a private school and its governors in relation to the long term future of the school and the charity. Advice included considering the various options available, such as merger and winding up. asb provided advice in connection with a possible merger, although it did not subsequently proceed.

We also advised in relation to the closure of the school and the conversion of the charity to a grant making charity, which included liaising with the Charity Commission to obtain consent to changes in the charity's governing document and giving effect to such changes.

We also advised on the employment aspects of the school closure, ensuring that staff remained until the end of the school year to mitigate the impact on the pupils.

We then advised in connection with the sale of the school site so that the charity is in funds in order to pursue its new objects.
