The asb experience
Having completed a law degree, I worked as a paralegal for a small firm in Brighton to see if I would enjoy working in practice before committing to doing the LPC.
I knew of asb law as one of the larger regional players – and I literally walked past the asb office every day! When one of my colleagues joined asb, he was really taken with the friendly, supportive atmosphere and its ambition.
His impressions of asb convinced me to apply for a training contract before undertaking my LPC. Once on board I moved between offices for my training, enjoying client contact and responsibility from the start. I received a lot of encouragement and support from partners and colleagues alike throughout, and qualified into the dispute resolution team in March 2005.
That support has never faltered; I became an Associate in 2009 and was promoted to partner in February 2011.
The firm has a clear strategy and is ambitious; it’s also very supportive of its staff’s ambitions. And it’s still a friendly place to be!Andrew – Partner, Dispute Resolution
I completed my training contract with a provincial firm in Essex and then spent a year as a solicitor / advocate specialising in criminal defence work. I then moved to join asb’s insolvency team in Brighton, and it’s testament to asb’s willingness to invest time and money in solicitors with diverse backgrounds that I was given the opportunity.
Since joining the firm I have moved into the dispute resolution team, which has given me the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of contentious work, from general commercial litigation to fraud and trust disputes.
asb is very good at recognising and developing an individual’s specific interests and strengths, and I’ve been able to develop a specialism in fraud, white collar crime and directors misfeasance.
The quality of work that I enjoy with asb is very high; a national and international client base gives me the opportunity to travel and experience work in various jurisdictions around the world, including proceedings in the High Court of Antigua and Barbuda.
Working outside London also allows me to pursue my interests outside work, specifically all things golf!
Kate - Associate, Corporate Finance
I started my legal career as a trainee with Ashurst LLP in London and qualified into the corporate team there in 2010. After starting a family in 2014 and trying to juggle both family and work I decided that it was time to move away from the City corporate environment and started to research regional firms. asb law stood out as one of the leading regional practices and I sent my CV on the off chance that they may have an opportunity for me. Luckily for me the timing was right and after meeting various Partners in the corporate finance team I was convinced that asb was a firm that would offer me a fantastic opportunity to develop my career in the regional market.
I joined asb in January 2016 and haven’t looked back since, in fact I feel like I have been here forever! I was made to feel like part of the team from day one and the atmosphere in the office is nothing but friendly and welcoming. Since I started I have been involved in high quality work and met a wide variety of clients and other professionals in the local market. One of the things that has struck me the most is how open the firm is and how well staff are kept up to date with the firm's performance and targets. asb is a hugely ambitious firm and I’m very much looking forward to my future here.
