About the team:

The Chief Operating Officer has oversight of the legal service delivery and operations across the firm and is driven to improve, streamline and standardise our services for the benefit of our clients. She is custodian of the asb way and works collaboratively with all departments to continually enhance our offering and the client experience.

 

About the role:

Our market research shows that clients want reliability of price and faster turnaround times.  The primary objective of this role is to improve the firm’s ability to deliver each matter to a predicted cost, timeline and quality standard. 

 

This is a newly created and pivotal role that will help the firm achieve its strategic objectives of significant revenue growth and improvement in the net margin by improving our ability to accurately predict the cost of production and finding ways of reducing that cost. The successful applicant will have proven data analysis, project management and process improvement experience and will work closely with the COO in designing, mapping, analysing and reporting on matters across the firm.

 

This is a stand-alone role that reports directly to the COO, however you will be required to interact with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders so it is essential that you are able to build rapport and relationships quickly. You will need to be able to present and explain financial information in a manner that can be understood by non-financial colleagues as well as demonstrating strong Excel and business modelling skills. Key roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Work with the service delivery managers to accurately predict the cost and timeline of a matter using a combination of process mapping techniques and historic data
  • After the event, compare the predicted cost and timeline with the actual cost and timeline in order to learn lessons and improve our ability to accurately predict in future
  • Undertake profitability analysis by matter and client
  • Development and documentation of improved systems and processes in support of the asb way
  • Research and explore new ways of working (incorporating technology and alternative providers)
  • Present findings and recommendations to the COO
  • Present accurate and timely management information to the COO, Finance Director and Managing Partner

Do you have?

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a commercially focused business environment
  • Previous experience of mapping business processes
  • Previous experience of conducting post project reviews / analysis
  • Experience of working within a fast paced environment
  • Previous experience of working within a law firm or other professional services sectors (Desirable)
  • Project management or process improvement qualifications (Desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of Excel, Power Point, Visio and other Microsoft products
  • A creative yet logical and pragmatic mindset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong sense of teamwork
  • Hands on attitude
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to influence Partners
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
