About the team:

The Information Solutions team is a small close working diverse team working across both offices (Crawley & Maidstone) focussing on the IS strategy and the ongoing drive for innovation and client service.  It consists of one Lead Developer, two IT technical and project leads, one part time Peppermint Project Manager and a part time Interim IT Director ultimately reporting to the Finance Director.


General Background

The Information Solutions team (IS Team) is structured as follows;

  • IT Technical and Project Lead– Crawley
  • IT Technical and Project Lead – Maidstone
  • IT Lead Developer
  • IT Systems Support/Trainer (open vacancy)
  • Peppermint Project Manager (contract part time)
  • Interim IT Director (contract part time)

The team formally reports to the Finance Director but also has a dotted line in to the interim IT Director for the financial year ending April 2018. The formation of the team will be reviewed in early 2018 when the structure for the 2018/19 financial year will be determined.


Given the fact that the firm recognises the value of teamwork, the IS Team meets weekly, for ninety minutes, to share work updates and to discuss policies and priorities.


About the role:

  • To design, develop and deliver customised training courses for all parts of the business in order to enhance and improve the firm’s ability to use its IT systems to their greatest advantage
  • To complement the existing induction training by delivering quality IT training to new joiners
  • To use all available training mediums when delivering training – classroom, one-to-one, video, documentation etc.
  • To work proactively throughout the business to identify training needs

You will also be expected to work closely with other members of the IS team in order to understand the timescales for new software releases and upgrades in order to ensure that all training is up to date and relevant. Given the nature of the role, it is essential that you are well organised and can work independently without supervision.

  • Work with members of the IS team to identify key training requirements
  • Prepare modular based training in several formats that meet these key requirements
  • Work closely with all areas of the business to deliver training where and when it is most needed
  • Evolve the training modules against a background of ever changing business needs and ever-changing software
  • Become a member of the IT Champion team
  • Forge strong relationships with all areas of the business so that the services you deliver are well received and valued

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provision and delivery of class room based IT training courses. This includes IT Induction training for new starters.
  • Regular floor walking and 1:1 assistance support for project rollouts and on an ad hoc basis.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of written training instructions and online learning materials in the form of e-learning courses, training videos, and intranet pages and tips and tricks articles.
  • To provide regular updates, feedback and recommendations.
  • Responsibility for keeping training records up to date.
  • Produce training reports for the FD/Interim IT Director/COO/HR Manager
  • Co-ordination of training schedules in conjunction with relevant individuals.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that all training facilities are correctly laid out and all equipment is fully functional.
  • Research, test and develop new training related tools and technologies which can be used to support IT Training
  • Ensure that all employees receive the right training to contribute to the success of the firm.
  • To perform effective quality assurance on all training content and materials.

Do you have?

  • 2-3 years experience of IT training delivery within a professional services environment
  • Experience of creating and implementing training modules in a similar role
  • Proven experience of understanding how IT can be used to benefit a business
  • Strong knowledge of standard IT products and techniques.
  • Previous experience of developing customised training modules Previous law firm experience in a training role (Desired)
  • Exposure to Practice Management Software (Desired)
  • Exposure to CRM (Desired)
  • Exposure to Peppermint (Desired – full training on this will be provided)
  • Microsoft Office software
  • Solid, wide ranging generalist IT knowledge and expertise
  • Knowledge and experience of e-learning software
  • An analytical mind able to relate software to discreet business processes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Time and deadline management
  • Comfortable in front of an audience
  • Empathetic and able to help people deal with any fears of new technology
  • Capable of selling concepts and inviting changes to working practices
  • Team player with a positive can do attitude
  • Confident and professional manner
