Leasehold enfranchisement

Contact | Quotation form

Flat owners have greater rights than ever before to take control of the ownership and management of their buildings, and since the introduction of the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002 more and more of them have been exercising statutory rights to extend their leases or acquire the freehold to their building or estate.

If you are the owner of a leasehold house or flat which is held on a lease originally granted for a term of more than 21 years, and you are concerned at the effect of the declining lease term on the value and marketability of your property, or would like to obtain control of your building, asb law can help.

asb law’s expertise in this area spans many years, and our dedicated Leasehold Enfranchisement Team has represented hundreds of groups of flat owners who have successfully acquired their freehold or extended their leases.

Of course, there are two sides to this equation, and in just as many instances we represent landlords and management companies in their negotiations with individuals or groups of tenants.

It’s not always possible to reach an amicable settlement, but in the event of cases being referred to the courts, we have experience of representing clients at hearings before the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal and the courts.
