A free half day seminar for charities
The Bribery Act 2010 has serious implications for charities with the introduction of a number of new criminal offences which can be committed by the charity and its employees and volunteers. Bribery can take many forms and charities, particularly (but not only) those with overseas operations, could find their ordinary and established procedures falling foul of the new legislation. All charities should take careful steps to ensure that they are both aware of and comply with the new obligations the Act has created.
The Act also serves as a timely reminder that charities are a major target for fraud, being generally seen as being a soft touch for fraudsters, with many charities loosing significant amounts of money. In these times of 'transparency' a simple allegation of fraud can be disastrous for charities, leading to a loss of public confidence and possible income.
The Act also throws conflicts of interest within charities into focus. A conflict of interest can take the form of direct financial gain, indirect financial gain (such as the employment of a trustee's spouse), non financial gain (for example, if the user of a charity's services is also a trustee) and a conflict of loyalties.
asb law LLP solicitors and accountants Richard Place Dobson have teamed up to present a free half day workshop looking at:-
- The obligations facing charities with the new Bribery Act 2010
- How to prevent fraud, develop anti-fraud policies and, if we need to, investigate fraud with the correct reporting procedures
- How to identify potential conflicts of interest, manage and avoid them and what are the consequences of ignoring them
The workshop will take place on Thursday 15 July 2010 at asb law, Innovis House, 108 High Street, Crawley RH10 1AS.
Registration will start at 9.00am to start the workshop at 09.30am finishing at 12.30pm with a light lunch.
